Return to TWO minutes times TEN days: a principal’s plan to boost attendance

#10 Measuring the change and setting an intention

So how did it go?  What changes did you notice?

Some of the items listed below are specific to dealing with student attendance and all reflect applying restorative practices to building connections with students/adults.

ACTION/REFLECTION

  1. Consider using The Checklist of Protective Factors and Risk Factors for student attendance to focus your intention as an individual staff member or as a school.
  2. Set an intention to use the 5 Step Circle for conversations with students and with adults in your school.
  3. Look at the SAE Indicators again in order to clarify a level of concern as moderate, high or severe.
  4. Consider setting an intention for yourself or you school to identify patterns of reasons why so many students are missing  school using this resource from AttendanceWorks.
  5. Here’s a short article on how a teacher uses TWO by TEN with her students.
  6. The desire to be treated with dignity is common to all human relationships. This desire manifests as the need to belong, to have voice, and to exercise agency in one’s own affairs.
